“Whorl Inside a Loop,” the latest stage show by Dick Scanlan and Broadway fave Sherie Rene Scott, will round out the 2014-15  season at Second Stage Theater, the New York nonprofit that produced Scanlan and Scott’s “Everyday Rapture” in 2009.

Michael Mayer (“Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” “American Idiot,” “Spring Awakening”) will co-direct “Whorl” with Scanlan, who’s written the book to musicals including “Motown,” “Thoroughly Modern Millie” and the recent redux of “The Unsinkable Molly Brown.”

Scott will star in “Whorl,” about an actress who bonds with the six inmates she’s teaching to tell their stories at a maximum security prison. Six male actors, still to be cast, also will appear in the show.

Like “Everyday Rapture,” “Whorl” seems to mirror events in Scott’s real life but isn’t billed as autobiographical in any way. After bowing at Second Stage, “Everyday Rapture” went on to have a Broadway run produced by the Roundabout Theater in 2010.

“Whorl Inside a Loop” begins previews Aug. 4 at Second Stage’s Off Broadway venue in midtown Manhattan. The opening night remains to be set.
