Russell Tovey, the “Looking” star who was last onstage in New York in “The History Boys” in 2006, and Richard Hansell have joined the cast of the upcoming Broadway revival of Arthur Miller drama “A View From the Bridge.”
The two British actors round out at a cast that already includes several of the performers who appeared in director Ivo van Hove’s initial staging of the play in London earlier this year: Mark Strong, Nicola Walker, Phoebe Fox, Emun Elliott and Michael Gould. Hansell also was in that staging, which originated at the Young Vic prior to a West End transfer; Tovey was not.
Best known in the States for his recent run in HBO series “Looking,” Tovey also starred in U.K. TV shows including “Being Human” and “The Job Lot,” and appeared onstage in London titles such as “Howard Katz,” “His Girl Friday” and “Sex with a Stranger.” Hansell’s credits include “Downton Abbey” and Royal Shakespeare Company productions of “The Madness of King George” and “Lady Windemere’s Fan.”
After “View From the Bridge,” van Hove will direct a Broadway revival of “The Crucible” in the spring. Both those shows are produced by Scott Rudin.
“A View From the Bridge” begins previews Oct. 21 prior to a Nov. 12 opening at the Lyceum Theater.
