Disneyland park resort officials announced Friday that several popular rides will close to make room for the highly anticipated “Star Wars”-themed land.

The Fantasmic! show, Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia, Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes, Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island and all four stations along the Disneyland Railroad will temporarily close for a year during the construction, which will begin in January of next year.

On Jan. 10, 2016, Big Thunder Ranch, which is made up of a barbecue restaurant, petting zoo and Jamboree stage, will close permanently.

Last month at Disney’s D23 Expo, CEO Bob Iger announced a “Star Wars” land as Disney’s newest addition to Disneyland park in Anaheim, Calif., and Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla.

Construction on Disneyland park’s 14-acre “Star Wars” land will begin in 2016. The new land will be built in the northern part of Frontierland, taking over Big Thunder Ranch’s current location.

Humanoids, aliens and droids will populate “Star Wars” land. Iger also announced the expansion will have two signature attractions, including a ride where fans can take the controls of the Millennium Falcon and an experience that drops park guests into a battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

All temporarily closed rides will shut down on the same day, but it is unknown exactly when they will return to action.
