The ceremony takes place on Wednesday, in the middle of a busy week for Diesel. The seventh installment of his “Fast & Furious” franchise debuts Friday, and is on track to break records. And, according to Diesel, it won’t just be notable for its box office victories.
“Universal is going to have the biggest movie in history with this movie,” he told Variety in a lengthy interview. “It will probably win best picture at the Oscars, unless the Oscars don’t want to be relevant ever.”
The critics agree with Diesel that it’s a fitting tribute to Paul Walker, Diesel’s good friend and “Fast & Furious” co-star who died last year in a car accident. In his review, Variety‘s Scott Foundas said the “hit muscle-car franchise does itself and the late Paul Walker proud with a solid seventh entry.”
