Tribeca Festival Sets Digital Interactive Slate, Virtual Reality Demos

The Tribeca Film Festival, which incorporates new technology and crossplatform projects into its programming each year, has set a lineup of five titles for Storyscapes, the series of interactive works that is part of the festival’s main slate. Also on the docket are an array of offerings including virtual reality installations and talks from techies including AOL’s Tim Armstrong.

The five titles on the Storyscapes competitive slate include Karim Ben Khelifa’s “The Enemy” (pictured above), which places viewers between the two sides in conflict-torn areas of the world; Brett Gaylor’s “Do Not Track,” a “personalized documentary” about online privacy; and Blast Theory’s “Karen,” an app experience about an invasive life coach (developed with National Theater of Wales).

All projects will be on display in Spring Studios, the new downtown hub Tribeca has created this year for festival events. That’s where Tribeca also has scheduled VR demonstrations from Stanford’s Virtual Human Interaction Lab.

Talks lined up as part of the fest’s tech programming include Armstrong, chairman and CEO of AOL; Google’s Astro Teller; and Ping Fu, the chief of 3D printing company 3D Systems.

New media-centric conferences TFI Interactive and Games for Change’s Games and Media Summit also run as part of the festival’s digital initiatives.

The 2015 Tribeca Film Festival runs April 15-26, launching with an opening-night screening of “Saturday Night Live” documentary “Live From New York!”
