YA Novel ‘This Song Will Save Your Life’ Heads to Stage, Screen

Broadway producer Kevin McCollum and former “Glee” producer Michael Novick have optioned rights to Leila Sales’ young adult novel “This Song Will Save Your Life” for stage and film.

The 2013 novel follows a bullied girl who finds a family and a home among the denizens of the underground music scene, rising to become a buzzy DJ along the way.

Exact details of the developing adaptations have yet to be set, but the story’s music-infused setting — and the resumes of the producers who have optioned it — point toward musical projects. McCollum is the Broadway producer of “Rent,” “Avenue Q,” “In the Heights,” “Motown” and the upcoming “Something Rotten!,” while Novick was one of the original producers of Fox series “Glee.”

Brooklyn-based Sales has written YA novels including “Mostly Good Girls” and “Past Perfect.” Her deal for the stage and film rights was negotiated with McCollum and Novick by her reps at CAA and InkWell Management.
