In a pre-Cannes sale, Cinedigm has acquired North American distribution rights to British drama “The Falling,” starring “Game of Thrones” actress Maisie Williams.

Independent is selling international markets at Cannes. “The Falling” will have a national theatrical, VOD and digital download release in late summer.

Carol Morley directed from her own script, which centers on the aftermath of a tragedy in the late 1960s at an English girls school, when an epidemic of fainting strikes. Florence Pugh, Maxine Peake, Monica Dolan, Joe Cole and Greta Scacchi also star.

Guy Lodge called the film “alluring” in his London Film Festival review for Variety. It was released on April 24 in the U.K.

“The Falling” is produced by Cairo Cannon of Cannon and Morley Productions and Luc Roeg of Independent. It’s presented by BBC Films and BFI in association with Lipsync Productions, a Cannon and Morley/Independent production in association with Boudica Red. The film was developed with the BFI Film Fund.

Williams won the Shooting Stars Award at Berlin earlier this year.
