Sony Pictures Classics is nearing a deal for worldwide rights to “Grandma,” Variety has confirmed.

The comedy features a standout performance from Lily Tomlin that could factor into future awards races. The pact is in the $2 million range.

The film co-stars Marcia Gay Harden, Judy Greer and Julia Garner. Paul Weitz (“Admission”) wrote and directs.

In an enthusiastic review, Variety’s Scott Foundas wrote that “Grandma” is “an initially breezy family comedy about mothers, daughters and abortions that slowly sneaks up on you and packs a major wallop.”

The film centers on a poet whose granddaughter shows up asking for help with an unwanted pregnancy.

WME is handling sales of the picture.
