MPC has come on board to fully finance and produce with Peter Safran and Lotus Entertainment, which is also handling international sales. “The Conjuring” scribes Chad and Carey Hayes wrote the script. Safran, the Hayes brothers and Motion Picture Capital’s Leon Clarance will produce, with Lotus Entertainment’s Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel and Ara Keshishian. MPC’s Laure Vaysse and Jo Monk and DJ Gugenheim are executive producing. Principal photography on the film is underway in Romania.
In the film, when a priest is jailed for the murder of a nun on whom he was performing an exorcism, an investigative journalist strives to determine whether he in fact murdered a mentally ill person, or if he lost the battle with a demonic presence.
The project joins a growing slate for MPC that includes “Come and Find Me” starring Aaron Paul and Annabelle Wallis and the Netflix drama “Sense8.”
Following her breakout role in Fox’s “Kingsman: the Secret Service,” Cookson has already landed and shot the drama “Emperor” opposite Adrien Brody.
She is repped by WME and the Curtis Brown Group.
