Brown serves as a producer and mentor on HBO’s “Project Greenlight,” helping guide young directors through the process of getting a movie made on time and on budget. The series is produced by Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Adaptive Studios.
Damon came under fire over comments he made about diversity on the show’s recent season four premiere, in which he interrupted Brown after she expressed reservations over how the single black character (a prostitute) on the episode’s chosen script would be represented onscreen. He later issued an apology.
“Dear White People,” written and directed by Justin Siemen, earned critical acclaim following its release last winter. Brown’s other producing credits include 2002’s “Real Women Have Curves” and 2007’s “Rocket Science.” She also serves on the board of Film Independent.
