‘Pitch Perfect 3’ in Works With Screenwriter Kay Cannon in Talks to Return

Universal and Gold Circle have started moving toward “Pitch Perfect 3” and are in early negotiations with screenwriter Kay Cannon to return.

Cannon wrote the first two films, which have been solid hits for Universal. The 2012 original grossed $113 million worldwide, while “Pitch Perfect 2” has hauled in $250 million worldwide.

The original film was adapted from Mickey Rapkin’s book “Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory.” The sequel was directed and produced by Elizabeth Banks and starred Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, Brittany Snow, Ester Dean, Hana Mae Lee, Alexis Knapp and Banks.

The project is at the early stages. Universal has not set a director or date for “Pitch Perfect 3,” and it’s uncertain which cast members will return.

Cannon worked as a writer and producer for the NBC series “30 Rock” and is a co-executive producer and writer on “New Girl.” She is repped by WME.

The news was first reported by the Hollywood Reporter.
