Paramount Pictures has secured worldwide distribution rights to the true crime drama “Captive” and plans to release the film this year.
The picture centers on Brian Nichols, who captivated national attention in 2005 after he escaped from a courthouse jail and murdered four people. His crime spree turned into a hostage situation.
“Captive” stars “Selma’s” David Oyelowo and “House of Cards” alum Kate Mara. It will debut on September 18, 2015, facing off against the sequel to “The Maze Runner,” a Whitey Bulger biopic with Johnny Depp, and “Everest” with Jake Gyllenhaal.
Jerry Jameson (“Last Flight Out”) directs the adaptation of the book “Unlikely Angel: The Untold Story of the Atlanta Hostage Hero” by Ashley Smith with Stacy Mattingly. The film’s screenplay is by Brian Bird (“Touched by an Angel”).
BN Films fully financed the picture. Cinetic Media was the sales agent on the film and negotiated the deal.
