Odyssey Taps ‘Sharknado’ Exec Karen O’Hara

Odyssey Media has hired Karen O’Hara as executive in charge of U.S. East Coast production and development, Variety has learned exclusively.

O’Hara has worked for seven years as VP of original movies at Syfy Channel, where she developed and supervised production on over 150 movies, including “Sharknado,” in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Bulgaria and Romania.

“Karen and I have a strong, proven working relationship that will enable us to seamlessly manage both Odyssey’s U.S. and international growth,” Odyssey Media CEO Kirk Shaw said.

O’Hara also worked as a story analyst, documentary researcher and acquisitions consultant for HBO and creative producer and writer on the Cinemax “After Dark” series.
