NYPD Corruption Documentary ‘The Seven Five’ Gets U.S. Release

Sundance Selects has acquired North American rights to All3Media America’s NYPD corruption documentary “The Seven Five.”

The deal comes six weeks after Sony won a bidding war for the remake rights to the film, directed by Tiller Russell and produced by Eli Holzman, Aaron Saidman and Sheldon Yellen.

The documentary centers around Michael Dowd, a police officer working in the 75th Precinct in crime-ridden East New York. Dowd began stealing money from drug dealers and eventually recruited his partner into an expanding criminal ring, leading to their arrest in 1992.

The deal was negotiated by Arianna Bocco for Sundance Selects/IFC Films with ICM Partners on behalf of the filmmakers.

Holzman is producing the Sony remake on behalf of All3Media America.

The film debuted in Novmeber at the DOC NY festival.
