Michael Vitar, best known for his role in “The Sandlot” as Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez, was arrested last week and charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed Tuesday.
Vitar was taken into custody Dec. 3 for an incident that happened on Halloween. He and two friends allegedly got into a fight with another man, and his friends have also been charged.
It’s not clear whether or not Vitar and his friends were intoxicated at the time of the alleged assault. Vitar was released last week on $30,000 bail.
The date of Vitar’s next court appearance has not yet been released. Vitar became a firefighter after putting his acting career to the side. According to TMZ, which first broke the news, the Los Angeles Fire Department has placed him under administrative leave with pay as the case continues, as well as one of the other men who was charged, who is also a firefighter.
If convicted, Vitar could face four years in prison. He started acting was he was 12 years old, and, after bursting onto the scene in 1993 classic “The Sandlot,” he also appeared in “D2: The Mighty Ducks” and “D3: The Mighty Ducks” in 1994 and 1996, respectively. He retired from acting in 1997.
