Matthew McConaughey is attached to star in the adaptation of Christopher McDougall’s “Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Super Athletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen.”

Matthew Michael Carnahan is penning the script, with Mickey Liddell, Deb Newmyer and Lorenzo di Bonaventura producing.

The story follows a journalist and often-injured runner who headed for Mexico’s Copper Canyons to find out how the Tarahumara Indians honed the ability to run hundreds of miles without rest or injury.

The film is currently without distribution.

McConaughey is continuing to find projects that sway more toward the serious dramas like “Mud” and “Dallas Buyers Club” that have helped revitalized his career in recent years as opposed to the romantic comedies that helped him make a name for himself early on in his career.

He was most recently seen in “Interstellar” and can be seen next in Gus Van Sant’s “Sea of Trees.” He is repped by CAA.

Past credits for the CAA-repped Carnahan include “World War Z,” “State of Play” and “The Kingdom.” He most recently penned “Deepwater Horizon,” which has Mark Wahlberg attached to star.

Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.
