Keri Russell and Mahershala Ali have joined Matthew McConaughey’s Civil War drama “The Free State of Jones” for STX Entertainment.

“The Hunger Games” director Gary Ross is producing and directing “Jones” from his own script. Scott Stuber and Jon Kilik are also producing.

Route One/Union Investment Partners and Vendian Entertainment are co-financing. IM Global, which introduced the project at the American Film Market, is overseeing international distribution.

The film is currently in production in Louisiana. Russell is set to play the wife of McConaughey’s character, Newt Knight, while Ali will play an escaped slave who becomes an ally of Knight’s rebellion against the Confederacy.

Russell stars in “The Americans,” and Ali stars in “House of Cards.”
