Kate Hudson Joins Mark Wahlberg’s ‘Deepwater Horizon’

Kate Hudson has been cast in “Deepwater Horizon” as the wife of Mark Wahlberg’s oil rig engineer character.

Gina Rodriguez, Dylan O’Brien, Kurt Russell and John Malkovich also star. The movie will mark the first onscreen pairing of Russell with his daughter Hudson.

Lionsgate and Participant Media are teaming on the film, directed by Peter Berg from Matthew Michael Carnahan’s script. In 2011 the companies acquired feature rights to the New York Times article “Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hour,” written by David Barstow, David Rohde and Stephanie Saul.

Producers are Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and David Womark.

The 2010 explosion of Deepwater Horizon killed 11 men working on the platform and injured 17 others. The subsequent gusher wasn’t capped for three months.

Lionsgate has set a Sept. 30, 2016, release.

Hudson is repped by CAA and managed by Rick Nicita and Jason Weinberg and her attorney Marcy Morris.
