Jenny Slate Joins Chris Evans in Marc Webb’s ‘Gifted’ (EXCLUSIVE)

“Married” actress Jenny Slate will star opposite Chris Evans in the Fox Searchlight drama “Gifted” with Marc Webb directing.

Slate also joins Octavia Spencer, Lindsay Duncan and newcomer McKenna Grace in the drama.

Scripted by Tom Flynn, “Gifted” tells the story of Frank Adler (Evans), a single man raising his 7-year-old, intellectually gifted niece Mary off the grid in rural Florida. In an attempt to help her experience a “normal” upbringing, Frank enrolls her in school, attracting the unwanted attention of his scheming mother who fights for custody of the girl only to exploit her gifts for selfish reasons. A familial tug-of-war takes form as they attempt to decide what is best for this remarkable girl.

Producers for “Gifted” include FilmNation’s Karen Lunder and Andy Cohen. Production is set to begin this fall.

Slate is currently filming the drama “Brain on Fire” opposite Chloe Grace Moretz, Thomas Mann and Tyler Perry. She is also developing an untitled FX road trip pilot with director/writer Gillian Robespierre and producer Elisabeth Holm (with whom she worked on “Obvious Child”). She can still be seen on FX’s comedy “Married” starring Nat Faxon and Judy Greer.

She is repped by WME, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Josh Sandler at Gray Krauss Stratford Sandler Des Rochers.
