Jacki Weaver, Hannibal Buress Join James Franco’s ‘The Disaster Artist’

Jacki Weaver, Hannibal Buress, Ari Graynor and Andrew Santino have joined the cast of the New Line comedy “The Disaster Artist,” starring James and Dave Franco.

Josh Hutcherson and Seth Rogen also star in the film, which James Franco is writing and directing.

The film takes an in-depth look at the making of the 2003 cult classic “The Room” — hailed by many as one of the worst movies ever made. James Franco will play director Tommy Wiseau while Dave Franco will play Greg Sestero, who co-starred in the film. Theaters across the nation still play the pic during midnight showings over the weekend.

Buress will play Bill Meur, the owner of the stage Wiseau rents for his movie. Santino will portray Scott Holmes, an inexperienced actor who is cast to play Mike in “The Room.”

Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber penned the script. Good Universe is producing “Disaster Artist” along with James Franco and Point Grey Pictures principals Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

Weaver stars on Starz’s “Blunt Talk” opposite Patrick Stewart. She is repped by ICM Partners and Elevate Entertainment. Burress’ past credits include “The Kings of Summer” and “Neighbors,” which also starred Dave Franco and Rogen. He is repped by WME and 3 Arts.

Graynor was most recently cast in the Showtime pilot “I’m Dying Up Here” with Melissa Leo. She is repped by UTA and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler & Feldman.

Santino also just wrapped the Showtime pilot “I’m Dying Up Here,” which was helmed by Jonathan Levine. His previous credits include the TV shows “Mixology” and “Sin City Saints.” He’s repped with UTA, Management 360 and Gregg Slewett at Bloom Hergott.

The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news.
