‘It Follows’ Star Maika Monroe Joins ‘Independence Day 2’

It Follows” star Maika Monroe has joined the cast of Roland Emmerich’s “Independence Day 2.”

Emmerich made the announcement via Twitter on Monday. Usher, Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher and Charlotte Gainsbourg have also been cast in the sequel, which 20th Century Fox has dated for June 24, 2016 — nearly 20 years after the original.

Monroe stars as a teen in “It Follows” who, after a seemingly innocent sexual encounter, suddenly finds herself plagued by nightmarish visions — leaving her unable to shake the sensation that someone or something is following her. The micro-budget film has been a breakout success for TWC-Radius with grosses topping $14 million.
