“Mockingjay – Part 2,” the fourth and final installment of Jennifer Lawrence’s “Hunger Games” franchise, will be released in China on Nov. 20.
As part of Lionsgate’s biggest rollout in its history, “Mockingjay – Part 2” will debut on several thousand screens in China on the same date it’s released in the U.S. and 85 other territories. Lionsgate is also planning to hold a Nov. 12 premiere in Beijing, its first-ever premiere in China.
The film is being imported by China Film Group’s Import Export Company, and will be jointly distributed by China Film Group and Huaxia in conjunction with Lionsgate’s promotional partner, Talent International. It will be released in China in 3D and 2D with dubbed and subtitled prints.
“‘Mockingjay 2’ brings one of the most successful movie franchises of all time to its incredible grand finale,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Patrick Wachsberger and Rob Friedman. “‘The Hunger Games’ franchise has evolved into a truly global phenomenon, and we’re thrilled to introduce ‘Mockingjay 2’ to its millions of Chinese fans with a launch that celebrates its status as a special and memorable event.”
China generated $27 million in box office revenue for each of the first two “Hunger Games” films. That figure rose to $36 million for “Mockingjay – Part 1” last year. The three movies have hauled a combined $2.3 billion at the global box office.
Lawrence is rejoined in the finale by Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Sam Claflin, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland, Julianne Moore and Natalie Dormer.
