Photographer Fred Prouser, who covered some 3,000 Hollywood galas and premieres, died Tuesday at his home in Marina del Rey, Calif. He was 63.
Prouser worked for Reuters in Los Angeles for over 20 years, and became a familiar face to many celebrities on the runway, even if they didn’t know his name. After finishing his last awards season in 2014, he took a leave of absence when he was diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer.
Prouser was born in Greenville, Miss., and attended college in Harrisburg, Pa. While in Pennsylvania he worked for UPI and the Associated Press. He moved to Los Angeles in 1992 with his late wife and business partner, Rose, to work for Reuters.
His photographs helped launch Variety’s party page in 1997.
Prouser is survived by two sons, Scott and Jeff; two granddaughters Macy and Olivia Bornman; a sister Debra, brother Alan, many nieces and nephews and Cindy Kludt, his companion during the past year.
