Relativity Studios has acquired the film rights to Celeste Ng’s family drama “Everything I Never Told You” for its Relativity Squared specialty division.
Relativity president of production Robbie Brenner will oversee with creative executive Kevin McKeon. Brenner is also president of Relativity Squared.
“Everything I Never Told You” is a New York Times bestseller and was named Amazon’s best book last year.
Ng’s debut novel centers on a mixed-race, Asian-American family in the late ’70s shocked by the inexplicable drowning of their seemingly perfect daughter, only to discover they didn’t know her at all. Through stories of her parents, the reader sees how their unfulfilled dreams became pressures they placed on their children — while her older brother suspects their neighbor is responsible for his sister’s death.
Relativity Squared’s upcoming slate includes Andrew Heckler’s “Burden”; Jim Sheridan’s “The Secret Scripture,” starring Vanessa Redgrave, Rooney Mara and Eric Bana; and “Tribes of Palos Verdes,” starring Jennifer Garner and Maika Monroe.
Ng is represented by UTA on behalf of Julie Barer at Barer Literary. The news was first reported by the Tracking Board.
