David M. Rosenthal has signed on to direct the Sierra Pictures action-thriller “How It Ends,” sources confirmed to Variety.

Brooks McLaren penned the script with Paul Schiff Productions joining Sierra Pictures as producers.

Sierra Pictures is developing and financing the project and the company’s Nick Meyer will exec produce. Sierra/Affinity will handle international sales of the project.

The film is set after a mysterious apocalyptic event turns the roads into mayhem and follows a young father who will stop at nothing to get home to his pregnant wife on the other side of the country.

Kelly McCormick, Sierra/Affinity’s executive vice president of production and development, is overseeing the production for the company.

Rosenthal most recently directed “The Perfect Guy” for Screen Gems, which starred Sanaa Lathan, Morris Chestnut and Michael Ealy and over-performed at the box office, bringing in $57 million on a $12 million budget. His other credits include “A Single Shot” and “Falling Up.”

He is repped by WME, his manager Tom Lassally at 3 Arts Entertainment and attorney Alex Kohner of Morris Yorn Barnes Levine Krintzman Rubenstein Kohner & Gellman.
