Christian Bale and Oscar Isaac will star in historical romance “The Promise,” with “Hotel Rwanda” director Terry George on board to helm in Portugal and the Canary Islands in the fall.
Mike Medavoy (“Black Swan”) is producing with Eric Esrailian, Ralph Winter (“X-Men”) and William Horberg (“Milk”).
The script, written by George and Robin Swicord, centers on a love triangle with a medical student, an American journalist based in Paris and a beautiful and sophisticated woman. The story will take place in the final days of the Ottoman Empire, which was dissolved by the World War allies in 1922.
Bale will play the reporter who loves the woman and being in a combat zone. Isaac will portray the student, who’s conflicted by old-world traditions.
Bale was last seen in “Exodus: Gods and Kings.” He stars in two completed Terrence Malick titles — “Knight of Cups” and “Weightless.”
Isaac will be seen in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “X-Men: Apocalypse.”
Bale is represented by WME and attorney Carlos Goodman. Isaac is repped by UTA and Inspire. George is represented by WME. Swicord is repped by UTA.
The news was first reported by the Wrap.
