Production and animation studio Zag has joined Chris Columbus’ 1492 Pictures and Ocean Park Entertainment to finance and produce the live-action/animated hybrid Christmas movie “12/24.”
Matt Lieberman penned the script, which is based on an original idea from David Guggenheim, who will produce with Madhouse Entertainment. Columbus, Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe will produce for 1492 Pictures.
The film follows two brothers who embark on a mission to prove that Santa Claus is real, setting an elaborate trap on Christmas Eve. Santa ends up incapacitated by their trap, leaving it up to the brothers to save Christmas.
“The film is a hybrid of live-action real world, with the wild imagination that Jeremy and his team are bringing to the Elves and the North Pole,” Columbus said. “I love Christmas and I love Christmas movies. This one can be a classic!”
The film falls under the production deal that Ocean Blue Entertainment and 1492 recently signed. “The Young Messiah,” which bows on March 11, was the first pic under the deal. Other films under the deal include “I Kill Giants” and “The Battle of New Orleans.”
Columbus and 1492 Pictures are repped by WME.
