Previously ranked second and fourth respectively in their opening frame, they climbed the charts with expanded grosses, to claim first and second spots in the week to March 1.
Chow Yun-fat-starring, gambling, comedy, sequel, “The Man From Macau II” (aka “From Vegas to Macau”) saw its gross up by 58% to reach $69.8 million in the second week, according to data from Entgroup. After 11 days on release “Macau” has emerged as the top Spring Festival film with a gross of $114 million.
Jean-Jacques Annaud’s “Wolf Totem,” saw its gross expand by 85% in the second frame, to hit $47.2 million. After 11 days its cumulative score is $80.1 million.
Slipping from third to fourth spot was Peter Pau’s fantasy “Zhong Kui: Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal.” Its second frame gross was down 15% to 27.2 million, for an 11 day cumulative of $59.0 million.
“Big Hero 6,” the week’s only significant new release, and the only Hollywood movie in the chart, debuted in fifth place. It managed a healthy $13.8 million in its opening frame, limited to two days.
TV spin-off “Dad Where Are We Going 2” dropped from fifth to sixth, with a gross down 33% to $13.8 million. Its 11 day cumulative is $34.8 million.
“Triumph In the Skies,” a feature derivative of a Hong Kong TV series, dropped from sixth to seventh with a gross down by a fifth at $10.4 million. Its 11 day cumulative score stands at $23.3 million.
“Emperor’s Holidays,” another TV derivative slipped from seventh to eighth with a weekly score down by 13% to $7.96 million. Its 11 days score is $17.0 million.
Chinese made cartoon “Boonie Bears: Mystical Winter” added $2.87 million in ninth place for a 31 day cumulative score of $47.0 million.
Previous chart topping romance, “Somewhere Only We Know” took tenth place and stands on a 20 day total of $45.2 million.
