CBS Films has acquired movie rights to Sam Regnier’s sports drama “Free Agent,” which recently won a Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
The story follows a female NBA executive for the Golden State Warriors who pursues the biggest free agent of her career while managing a messy divorce and a complicated relationship with a younger colleague and his teenage sister.
Regnier began his career in the entertainment industry as an assistant at Paramount. The rights deal was closed before this week’s announcement of the Nicholl Fellowship winners.
Alex Ginno and Mark Ross are overseeing the project for CBS Films. Regnier is represented by Scott Carr of Management SGC and attorney Gregg Gellman.
