‘Captain America: Civil War’ Trailer Breaks Marvel Record

The first trailer for “Captain America: Civil War” broke a Marvel record after its release last week, garnering 61 million global views in its first 24 hours.

The previous record holder for Marvel was “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” which debuted last year to 34 million views.

The viewing total, however, is dwarfed by Disney’s Oct. 22 launch of its “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trailer, which generated a record-shattering 112 million views in 24 hours.

The teaser trailer rolled out Nov. 24, five months before the May 6 opening. Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. debuted the trailer on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” along with three new posters.

The new “Civil War” footage teased a point of friction between Downey’s Tony Stark and Evans’ Steve Rogers: Rogers’ friend Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), a.k.a. the Winter Solider.

The footage also included Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, Anthony Mackie’s Falcon, Don Cheadle’s War Machine and William Hurt’s General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross.
