A24 has given an awards-season release to Brie Larson’s drama “Room” with an Oct. 16 limited launch in New York and Los Angeles and a nationwide expansion on Nov. 6.

The film, which also stars Jacob Tremblay, Joan Allen and William H. Macy, is directed by Lenny Abrahamson and produced by Element Films, No Trace Camping and Film4.

A24 acquired rights at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, prior to production, and the movie was just announced as part of the official lineup for the upcoming Toronto Film Festival.

“Room,” based on Emma Donoghue’s 2010 novel, is told from the viewpoint of a 5-year-old boy — portrayed by Tremblay — being held captive with his mother (Larson) in a small room. The book has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide.
