Bill Hader will star in dramedy “Empress of Serenity,” to be directed by “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” author Jessie Andrews.
Good Universe is producing “Empress of Serenity,” centered on a lawyer who’s coerced into taking an ocean cruise in order to bond with his estranged father. Production is planned for the spring.
Producers are Stephen Chbosky along with Mr. Mudd’s Lianne Halfon, Russell Smith and John Malkovich. The same group produced “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.”
Hader was a cast member for eight seasons on “Saturday Night Live” until 2013. His recent credits include “Trainwreck” opposite Amy Schumer, “The Skeleton Twins” opposite Kristen Wiig and the voice of Fear in Disney/Pixar’s “Inside Out.”
Andrews adapted the screenplay for “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” from his 2012 debut novel of the same name. The film premiered at Sundance, where it won the U.S. Grand Jury Prize in the dramatic category and the Audience Award for U.S. drama.
Hader is represented by UTA and attorney Fred Toczek. Andrews is repped by WME and MXN.
