Jean Dujardin, who last starred in Cedric Jimenez’ thriller “La French,” is back into comedy with “Up for Love,” a high-concept romantic comedy directed by Laurent Tirard and repped by Gaumont.

“Up for Love” stars Virginie Efira (“It Boy”) as Diane as a newly single lawyer who gets a call from Alexandre (Dujardin), a charming architect she’s never met who happened to find her lost phone. The two hit it off and decide to meet, but that first date takes an unexpected twist.

Gaumont, which is co-producing and representing the film in international markets, has already scored a flurry of European pre-sales at last month’s Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Paris.  Deals were closed with Lucky Red (Italy), Frenetic (Switzerland), Cineart (Benelux) and Pologne (Kinoswiat‎). Yohann Comte, Gaumont’s deputy head of sales, said the company had also received multiple offers from German buyers.

Tirard is one of France’s best-known comedy helmers, having directed “Little Nicholas” (worldwide B.O.: $59.4 million), “Cycling With Moliere” and “Asterix and Obelix: God Save Britannia.”
