Ben Stiller provided the comic counterpoint to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom Cruise at Paramount’s presentation at CinemaCon on Tuesday, evoking guffaws as he reprised the goofy Derek Zoolander in a video clip for “Zoolander 2.”
“It’s great to be at Comic-Con,” he said. “You’re like the Justice League with your superpower being exhibiting movies.”
Stiller noted that the original film grossed $46 million domestically and “whopping” $15 million internationally in 2001. And he promised that the sequel will be bigger.
“‘Zoolander 2’ is going to drop like a giant bomb — only a good bomb where that explodes with all this money that you can keep,” he said.
Stiller is joined by Owen Wilson and Will Ferrell in the sequel as well as Penelope Cruz, who he referred to as “an Australian actress.” Billy Zane, who recently joined the cast, was introduced in the clip by Stiller, who remained staring at the camera.
Stiller and Wilson announced the film’s release date by walking in the Valentino show at Paris Fashion Week in March. The sequel is written by Stiller and Justin Theroux with Stiller set to direct.
