Brace yourselves, gamers: The first photo of Michael Fassbender in “Assassin’s Creed” has been released.
Based on the wildly popular collection of videogames, New Regency’s live-action “Assassin’s Creed” will be directed by Justin Kurzel and released through Fox.
Fassbender’s character is named Callum Lynch, who hasn’t appeared in the “Assassin’s Creed” videogames but was created just for the film. Lynch learns he has family ties to a secret assassin society, and his connection lets him experience the story of his ancestor, Aguilar, who lived in Spain in the 15th century. His experiences with Aguilar help him battle the Knights Templar in the present day, according to Yahoo News.
Marion Cotillard stars alongside Fassbender, in addition to Michael Kenneth Williams and Ariane Labed. Shooting is expected to begin next week in Malta, London and Spain.
“Assassin’s Creed” is co-financed by RatPac and Alpha Pictures. Producers are Frank Marshall, Arnon Milchan, Jean-Julien Baronnet, Conor McCaughan, Fassbender and Pat Crowley. Ubisoft Motion Pictures developed the project and is producing with New Regency.
“Assassin’s Creed” hits theaters Dec. 21, 2016.
