Universal Buys ‘Schooled’ Pitch From Amy Poehler

Universal Pictures has acquired the pitch “Schooled” with Amy Poehler attached to produce, sources have confirmed to Variety.

Erica Oyama will pen the script about a high-school teacher who goes through great lengths to gain her students’ respect, with Poehler and Brooke Posch producing through their Paperkite Productions shingle.

The pitch was brought by Universal exec VP Erik Baiers.

Poehler most recently worked with Universal on the comedy “Sisters,” which also stars Tina Fey and bows in December. She is also producing an untitled basketball sports comedy with the studio.

Oyama has a handful of projects in the works, including “White Girl Problems” at Lionsgate; “Me Time” at Universal, starring Ken Marino; “Go the F to Sleep” at Fox 2000 and “True Freshman” at Fox.

Poehler and Paperkite are represented by WME, 3 Arts Entertainment and Sloane Offer Weber & Dern. Oyama is represented by Paradigm and Principato-Young Entertainment.
