Kate Winslet’s ‘A Little Chaos’ Pulled From Release

Focus Features has removed historical drama “A Little Chaos,” starring Kate Winslet, from its March 27 release date and has not set a new date.

Focus gave “Chaos” the March date when it announced the acquisition in late September, a few weeks after it closed the Toronto Film Festival.

Alan Rickman directed the film from a screenplay he wrote with Alison Deegan and Jeremy Brock. Winslet stars with Stanley Tucci in the story of a female landscape designer tasked with overseeing part of the Versailles gardens. Rickman also plays King Louis XIV.

The film was financed by Lionsgate U.K. and BBC Films in Scandinavia.

Variety reviewer Dennis Harvey was not impressed: “’A Little Chaos’ is all too tidy as it imposes a predictable, pat modern sensibility on a most unconvincing depiction of late 17th century French aristocratic life.”

Focus Features acquisition president Lia Buman and exec VP of business affairs Beth Lemberger negotiated on behalf of the studio, and CAA brokered the deal on behalf of Lionsgate U.K. and Potboiler Productions.
