Lensing of “Rio Heat,” an English-language, Canada-Brazil co-production starring Harvey Keitel, is under way in Rio. It is the first international production in Brazil that will generate both a feature and a TV series. Stephen Campanelli is helming the film, which wraps its shoot in April; Jon Cassar (“24”) will helm the series, which will be lensed in June with the same cast. He is also executive producer of both the pic and series.
“Rio Heat” is designed to appeal to the global market. Fox has the rights for Latin America. Canada-based Canazil Entertainment Group, which produces the pic and series along with Brazilian Filmes do Serro, has the pic’s rights for all other markets.
The film is scheduled to be released in the first quarter of 2016. Fox’s Brazilian pay-TV net Canal Fox plans to release the series sometime after the pic’s theatrical run in 2016.
The plot follows Bianca (Thaila Ayala) and Sean (Victor Webster), who are hired by billionaire Henry Humbolt (Harvey Keitel) to solve crimes in Rio.
