Aardman Buys U.S. Animation Studio Nathan Love

Aardman, the British animation house whose franchises include “Wallace & Gromit,” has acquired a majority share in New York-based studio Nathan Love, which will become its first permanent production facility outside the U.K.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Aardman will rename its new U.S. outpost Aardman Nathan Love. Founded in 2007, Nathan Love specializes in advertising work with clients that have included Kellogg’s, Kraft, Pepsi, NBCUniversal, Nickelodeon and Merck.

“Teaming up with an existing company gives us the opportunity to hit the ground running and a solid base from which to grow,” David Sproxton, co-founder and executive chairman of Aardman, said in a statement. “This venture is not about sending work back to the U.K. It’s about building a new business in New York for American agencies and we feel we can do this more effectively by being there.”

Joe Burrascano, founder of Nathan Love, added that the partnership with Aardman “feels very natural… Our values and philosophy are closely aligned, and the potential for what we can do together is incredibly inspiring.”

Aardman, based in Bristol, England, is headed by co-founders Sproxton and Peter Lord. It produces feature films, series, advertising and digital entertainment for both U.K. and international markets. Aardman Animations’ most recent release was “Shaun the Sheep: The Movie,” with previous films including “Chicken Run,” “Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit” and “The Pirates! Band of Misfits.”
