Toronto: Telefilm Canada’s Pitch This! Winner Announced

Director-screenwriter Daniel Perlmutter and producer Laura Perlmutter (First Love Films Inc.) have won the 16th annual Pitch This! development award for their feature project “Demonolatry,” it was announced Sunday at the Toronto Film Festival.

The Toronto-based filmmakers were among six Canadian teams chosen to pitch their dramatic or documentary feature projects on Sunday before a six-member jury and a live audience of more than 250 industry professionals.

Daniel Perlmutter, an alumnus of the Canadian Film Centre’s Features Comedy Lab, also pitched in 2008 and won in 2009 for the Newfoundland-set newspaper comedy “Fit to Print,” which was released as “Big News From Grand Rock” in 2014 in Canadaby Markham Street Films.

The winning project “Demonolatry” received C$15,000 ($11,298) and follows a couple who go on a prescribed weekend getaway to figure out their relationship, but end up facing off against demons and each other when they discover a frozen woman in the woods.

Pitch This! is supported by government audiovisual funding agency Telefilm Canada.
