Toronto: J.T. Petty to Direct Bank Robbery Thriller ‘My Only Sunshine’ (EXCLUSIVE)

J.T. Petty will direct the upcoming thriller “My Only Sunshine.”

The film centers on a pair of bank robbers who plan a heist in order to finance their divorce. Petty wrote with screenplay with Kate Petty.

Carissa Buffel, Kevin Matusow, and Steven Chester Prince of Traveling Picture Show Company will finance and produce in association with Lawrence Mattis and Matt Smith of Circle of Confusion. CAA is packaging the project and will represent the North American rights. Casting is under way and principal photography is set to begin in early 2016 in Ottawa.

Though the subject matter sounds serious, the film’s backers said “My Only Sunshine” has a darkly comic undertone, comparing it to cult films like “Natural Born Killers” and “From Dusk Till Dawn.”

“J.T. has created something completely original, elevating the action/horror genre with his unique characters and dynamic, biting dialogue,” said Prince.

Petty’s films credits include “Hellbenders” and “The Burrowers.” He also has a background is in video games, having scripted “The Walking Dead: The Game – Season 2” and “Batman: Vengeance.” He is represented by CAA and Circle of Confusion.
