Cannes: Diamond Drives Into Latin American Production (EXCLUSIVE)

Theatrical arm of Telefilms’’ makes first Brazilian production investment

Telefilms’ Diamond Films Drives Into Local

Diamond Films, the distribution arm of heavyweight Latin American buyer Telefilms, is moving into local production in Latin America.

First up in Brazil is David Schurmann’s “Peqeno Segredo” (Little Secret), produced by Ocean Films. Pic is a tale of three interconnected love stories inspired by the life of the director’s adopted sister Kat Schurmann, who died in 2006. It is written by Marcos Bernstein (“Central Station”).

Running distribution operations in Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Brazil, Diamond Films has taken co-production equity in “Little Secret,” plus distribution rights in Brazil, and the rest of Latin America.

Marking Diamond’s debut in the Brazilian production market, “Little Secret” is also the first Brazilian film released by Diamond in the whole Latin American market. “It is the perfect way to start our participation as exhibitors of domestic-made films in Brazil, and Brazilian films in Latin America,” said Diamond Films’ co-owner Diego Halabi.

Per Diamond Films Brazil’s CEO Laercio Bognar, “Little Secret” will be released first half 2016 400-500 screens, a substantial number.
