Cannes: Cate Blanchett, Robert Redford Drama ‘Truth’ Sells to Sony Classics

Sony Pictures Classics nabbed U.S. rights to Robert Redford and Cate Blanchett drama “Truth.” The deal is reportedly worth $6 million.

“Truth” is based on the 2005 book “Truth and Duty: The Press, the President and the Privilege of Power” by Mary Mapes, who was CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather’s producer and centers on the scandal that erupted in 2004 when Rather reported that then-President George W. Bush got special treatment while serving in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam war, a report that was subsequently discredited.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported the deal.
