Vivek Krishnani will be the managing director of Sony Pictures India, effective November 1. He replaces Kercy Daruwala, who was with the company for 34 years.

Krishnani will be responsible for the theatrical distribution of all Sony Pictures Entertainment films in the territory.

Prior to this, Krishnani was senior VP, revenue and marketing at Multi Screen Media Motion Pictures, the Indian film production arm of Sony Pictures Entertainment Television Network. During his tenure, the company co-produced box office hit “Piku”, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan.

Hollywood movies are carving out a growing share of the box office in India, one of the world’s largest film markets and one traditionally dominated  by local titles.
