LONDON — Nepal’s Foreign-Language Film Selection Committee has chosen Nischal Basnet’s “Talakjung vs Tulke” as its entry in the foreign-language film category at the 88th Academy Awards.
The film follows a village laborer who dreams of regaining his former aristocratic identity. A revolution sets off a chain of events that forces him to the city and he returns armed with the tools that will allow him to seek revenge on those who had wronged him and his family. Dayahang Rai, Khagendra Lamichane and Richa Sharma star.
Black Horse Pictures and Shatkon Arts Production produced the film. It had a theatrical release in Nepal in October 2014 and has had festival play at the Shanghai Intl. Film Festival.
Basnet’s 2012 film, the crime drama “Loot,” was a big hit among Nepalese youth.
The deadline to enter in the Academy’s foreign-language film race is Oct. 1 and the nominations will be announced Jan. 14 after the entries have been shortlisted to nine films. The Oscar ceremony takes place Feb. 28 in the Dolby Theatre.
