BUSAN—Debuting on 946 screens, Marvel’s “Ant-Man” opened on top of the Korean box office and dominated weekend proceedings.

It accounted for 46% of total weekend revenues, earning $9.25 million from 1.31 million admissions over its four opening days. That is the best bow for a Marvel first installment in the country.

Still strong, homegrown action comedy “Veteran” slipped to second place. It made $4.05 million between Friday and Sunday — a week-on-week drop of 44%. It now stands on a cumulative of $77.6 million from 11.9 million admissions after five weekends.

Hong Won-chan’s Cannes’ midnight screener “Office” debuted in third, taking $1.77 million from 266,900 admissions between Thursday and Sunday.

NEW’s fantasy melodrama “The Beauty Inside” dropped to fourth and has made $11.73 million after three weekends.

Sixth-placed sensation, “Assassination” edged its total ahead to $80.7 million from 12.5 million admissions since Jul 22 release.

Warner Bros. horror release “The Gallows” and Fox’s action thriller “Hitman: Agent 47” respectively made $427,000 and $297,000 between Thursday and Sunday.

Indian comedy drama “PK” opened on Thursday and made $166,000 from 25,200 admissions. Previous Rajkumar Hirani — Aamir Khan movie “3 Idiots” made $2.8 million from 459,000 admissions in 2011.
