Japan Box Office: ‘Unfair: The End’ Rivals ‘Ted 2’

TOKYO — “Unfair: The End,” the final installment in a long-running cop thriller TV and film series starring Ryoko Shinohara as a tenacious police detective, opened atop the Japanese box office for the weekend of Sept. 5-6. It earned $2.47 million on 214,000 admissions from 328 screens, with Toho distributing.

With Japanese charts presented by admissions, Toho-Towa’s “Ted 2” slipped to second place after one week in the top slot, on 211,000 ticket sales, but it beat the top film “Unfair” in gross terms with a score of $2.56 million.

“Unfair: The End” was directed by Shimako Sato, who also made the previous episodes “Unfair: The Movie” (2007) and “Unfair: The Answer” (2011). Its opening core was 6% lower than “Unfair: The Answer,” which finished with $20 million.

Ted 2” now has a nine-day total of $11 million from 950,000 admissions.

Number three, “Jurassic World” ran its cumulative total to $65 million, number four “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” extended its cumulative to $37 million, and number five “Minions,” to $39 million.
