Debuting at number two was Paramount’s “Mission Impossible — Rogue Nation,” with $6.1 million, including Aug. 7 sneaks, from 346 screens.
Entering the chart at number three was “Boruto – Naruto the Movie,” the latest feature installment in the “Naruto” animated franchise about the adventures of the title ninja. Opening on 268 screens, with Toho distributing, the film scored $3.3 million.
Yet another newcomer was “The Emperor in August,” which, with Shochiku and Asmik Ace handling, garnered $1.2 million from 210 screens for 10th place. The Masato Harada-directed drama depicts Emperor Hirohito and his Imperial Council debating the fate of Japan in the closing days of World War II, as a coup attempt by Army firebrands brewed in the background.
