TOKYO – “Big Hero 6” won its second weekend at the Japanese box office, earning $4.6 million on 413,000 admissions Jan. 10-11.
By Jan. 12, a national holiday, the Disney animated feature had driven its cumulative total to $48 million on 4.5 million admissions.
Holding onto second place was the local animation “Yokai Watch the Movie: It’s the Secret of Birth, Meow!,” whose total rose to $54.8 million.
Ranking at number three was “ST MPD Scientific Investigation Squad: The Movie,” a thriller based on a hit show about a crime lab team. Opening on 292 screens, the film scooped $1.97 million on 154,000 admissions in its first two days in release.
Opening in fourth spot was the animated sci-fi thriller “Psycho-Pass,” which earned $1.15 million on 93,200 admissions from 103 screens in its opening frame. Its four-day Jan. 9-12 total was $2.09 million.
Rounding out the top five was “Taken 3,” which bowed on 353 screens and recorded $1.02 million on 93,100 admissions.
