Jack Neo’s Singaporean smash hit “Ah Boys to Men: Frogmen” receives its first screening in Hong Kong March 24 as the franchise comedy seeks international buyers to match its impressive haul on home turf.
Neo has become Singapore’s most successful commercial director. The film is produced by the recently listed mm2 Asia in a co-production with Fox Intl. Channels and Ascension Pictures, among others.
Neo and the main cast will make an appearance on the Convention Centre floor today. Mm2 says one of its FilMart objectives is to sign a distributor for Hong Kong.
The film’s four-day Chinese New Year gross, at S$2.83 million ($2.04 million), represented the all-time record opening in Singapore by an Asian film, beating the decade-old record held by Stephen Chow’s “Kung Fu Hustle.” That film finished its run with S$4.33 million ($3.13 million). As of March 19, “Frogmen” stood at S$7.07 million ($5.10 million).
